FAQ

Where is your office located?

My office is at:

601 N. Mur-Len Road, #6Olathe, KS 66062

What are your office hours?

I currently see clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am – 7pm, Wednesdays from 9am – 3:30pm, and Fridays from 9am – 5:30pm.

How long are the sessions?

Regular therapy sessions typically run for 50 minutes. Longer sessions might be available if needed, but these should be discussed and agreed to with your therapist before scheduling.

How frequently do sessions occur?

My general rule of thumb for new clients is to come once a week for at least the first four sessions, as this helps to strengthen the therapeutic relationship. Then during the fourth session, I will discuss ongoing plans.

Some clients continue coming every week, some come every other week, and some come once a month. It is possible to attend more or less frequently, but this would be something you would discuss and determine with your therapist.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not currently accept insurance. Insurance companies demand specific criteria to render payment for sessions, and this frequently requires me to share information with the insurance company that frankly is none of their business.

Insurance companies also often determine how many sessions they are willing to cover, effectively deciding for me how frequently and how long you will come to therapy. I believe in protecting your privacy and not allowing a third-party entity to make decisions about your needs and well-being.

That said, some people might choose to submit claims on an out-of-network basis. If this is of interest to you, you will need to speak with me, and I will help you understand the process of filing these claims

How do I set up an initial appointment?

Before having the first appointment, I will have a free 15-minute phone consultation with you. I will ask you to share why you seek counseling during this brief phone call and determine if I’m qualified to help.

My commitment is for you to see the right therapist. If I believe I can help at the end of the phone call, I will get you set up with an appointment. If I determine I’m not the right fit, I will try to provide referrals to others who might help you.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require a 24-hour advanced notice for all cancellations. You can cancel by calling or emailing me outside of that 24-hour window. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, I charge the full session fee for the missed appointment.

With what age ranges do you work?

I work with those that are aged 18+

With what kind of clients do you work?

I work with both cisgender and transgender individuals. I enjoys working with those whose depression, anxiety, and trauma have prevented them from living as fully as they would like.

What do sessions look like with you?

I prioritize the relationship above all else in the counseling room. Clients can expect to feel emotional warmth during counseling. Sometimes people will report that previous counseling felt cold, emotionless, and sterile, preventing them from being able to feel trusting and fully open up in therapy.

I believe in creating a genuine connection through empathy and compassion, and I will use my therapy skills to provide gentle guidance toward healing.

Do your clients receive assignments to work on between sessions?

I don’t regularly provide homework assignments between sessions. Occasionally, I might suggest engaging in an assignment between sessions, but these are not treated as homework to be “turned in and graded.” The most crucial aspect of successful therapy in my mind is my clients’ willingness to engage in the process, whatever that means for each unique person.

What modalities do you use in your client work?

I consider myself to be an “eclectic” therapist. This characteristic means that I don’t have one type of treatment that I necessarily offer above others. Often this means that even during a single session, I might use multiple modalities.

Common types of modalities I use include the following: theories based in Attachment Theory such as Emotion-Focused Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy; cognitive-based theories such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy; Humanistic approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy; and Trauma approaches such as EMDR.

I don’t believe any one of these approaches is better or worse than others. Instead, I believe that everyone is so unique that I want to tailor my approaches to help each person flourish.

What is your professional training and experience?

I received my undergraduate degree in education from the University of Kansas, and I have used this effectively to help educate clients on otherwise difficult-to-understand ideas. My Master’s degree in Counseling is from a small college in North Kansas City.

Since graduating, I received specific training in EMDR and DBT. A significant portion of my on-the-job experience comes from four years of working in inpatient psychiatric hospitals. I have learned how to quickly identify dangerous thought and emotion patterns and dangerous behavior patterns.

I have maintained an outpatient caseload for the entirety of my professional career. I have completed my required post-graduate training and have successfully obtained the highest level of counseling licensure in the state of Kansas, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I also am a Licensed Master Addiction Counselor (LMAC).

Do I need to find a counselor with similar experiences to me so that they can better understand and help me?

No, my training allows us to help those who have been through experiences I’ve never had myself. If I have had similar experiences, I commit to working through my own experiences so that the counseling stays focused on you.

Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have two dogs named Huxley and Haddie. I love my pups so much and if you ask me, I’ll proudly show you pictures.

What are your hobbies?

I have a passion for computers and Disc Golf. I am continuously striving to enhance my Disc Golf skills, dedicating myself to the sport. I actively participate in leagues and tournaments, with a personal goal of reaching the local professional level before physical limitations prevent me from doing so. Additionally, I find enjoyment in participating in bowling leagues and tournaments.
